If you hear the strains of various musical genres at cinemas around Berlin, don’t be surprised. The annual In-Edit International Music Documentary Festival will take place from April 5 to 10 at Kreuzberg’s Moviemento (Kottbusser Damm 22; 49-30-692-4785; www.moviemento.de) and Mitte’s .HBC (Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 9; 49-30-24-34-29-20; www.hbc-berlin.de). From electro to flamenco, an eclectic range of musical genres are represented in the lineup of 33 documentaries that feature artists like the White Stripes, Johnny Cash, Feist and Brian Eno.

Marc Llop, one of the event organizers, said the festival’s selection reflects Berlin’s diversity and international attitude. Berlin, he said “has been a place open to people and ideas that didn’t find the same freedom in other places.”

In-Edit will host the debut of “Paul Kalkbrenner,” a movie about the eponymous techno D.J. The film consists of footage from Mr. Kalkbrenner’s concerts in 10 different venues. “Paul is a star around the world, but his biggest fan base is in Berlin,” said Max Penzel, the film’s director and cinematographer. He added that he was curious whether the audience would stay seated or start dancing.

The festival’s films cover a wide range, both geographically and temporally, from Beijing to Stockholm, disco-era America to contemporary Europe. Mr. Llop noted that, thanks to the festival’s international scope, “even a well-traveled audience can make new discoveries” about music scenes across the world. In the long run, he hopes In-Edit will also “become a point of reference for the music film and give it the well-deserved platform it is still missing in Germany.”

In-Edit, which began in Barcelona in 2009, has grown to be an international network of film festivals that showcase music-related films. Last year, 27,000 people attended the festival in Barcelona alone, Mr. Llop said. (This will be the first time the festival takes place in Berlin.) Six additional local editions of In-Edit are planned this year in São Paulo; Rio de Janeiro; Barcelona; Santiago; Buenos Aires; and Puebla, Mexico — each with its own distinct selection.
